The European Union has an extensive core TEN-T transport network. However, there are regions or parts of regions that have difficulty accessing the core transport network. In Central Europe, such areas are often peripheral and border areas in their home countries. At the same time, these areas are generally considered to have poorly developed public passenger transport.
RRA Koroška, together with eight other institutions from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovenia, has succeeded in obtaining funding from the European Regional Development Fund for the implementation of the TRANS-BORDERS project. Over the three years of cooperation, activities to improve public passenger transport will focus on the common problems of two border and outlying areas in Central Europe. One pilot area is the tri-border area between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, and the other area is between the Koroška region in Slovenia and the southern part of the Austrian state of Koroška.
The Interreg Central Europe programme is an EU cohesion policy programme supporting transnational cross-border cooperation and the cooperation of public and private organisations in Central Europe. In the period 2014-2020, €246 million from the European Regional Development Fund is allocated to implement the programme.
