We conducted a study tour in the form of a multimodal excursion in the cross-border area of the Geopark Karavanke
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, a study tour in the form of a multimodal excursion in the cross-border area of the Karavanke Geopark was organized by the Regional Development Agency for Koroška.
For a decade, the RRA Koroška has been working in various ways to develop and promote more sustainable modes of mobility. We have exchanged experiences and sought solutions to specific problems with representatives of local communities, public transport operators and non-governmental organizations.
At the same time, the participants learned about the background of planning, implementation and promotion of cross-border public passenger transport and the development of the cycling network in the area of the Geopark Karavanke or the Koroška region in Slovenia and the southern Koroška region in Austria. At the same time, they tried out in practice a ride on the Štrekna bus between Dravograd and Labot/Lavamünd with a new bicycle trailer, cycling on the dedicated cycling infrastructure between Labot/Lavamünd and Pliberk/Bleiburg, riding on the new cross-border public transport line Geopark bus between Pliberk/Bleiburg and Črna na Koroškem and back, descending on the longest steel cable car in Slovenia, Olimpline , and finally a train ride between Pliberk/Bleibirg and Dravograd.
The full-day study tour showed in practice what experiencing this cross-border region can look like without using a personal car.
It was a great and enjoyable experience. Thank you to everyone who participated in the tour.
