The event, which this time hosted at Koroškem - in Kope, brought together numerous representatives of regional development agencies, municipalities, ministries and experts in the field of regional development. To plan the future of our regions holistically, strategically and responsibly. We are talking about a future that will not be the result of coincidences - but of thoughtful decisions, cooperation and a clear vision."
New strategy – a more decisive regional policy for balanced development
Slovenia has been systematically promoting harmonious regional development for more than fifty years. During this time, numerous positive developments have been achieved, which have contributed to the progress of local communities and to the improvement of the quality of life of residents in all parts of the country. Nevertheless, regional disparities have been increasing again in recent years. The new strategic framework emphasizes the need for polycentric, spatially balanced development , based on the strengthening of regional centers. Such an approach also brings positive economic effects in the long term, as it allows for the full use of regional potential.
The key to the successful implementation of such a model will be greater autonomy, responsibility and institutional capacity of the regions, while investing in education, research, development and innovation.
One of the most important findings of this year's symposium is that integrated planning is essential in shaping development measures at 'lower levels' . This is where national strategies are transformed into tangible improvements in people's lives .
The event also presented good practices from Slovenian regions and examples of successful regional development from neighboring Austria.
We are happy that the organizers decided to host Koroškem this time. And we, the people of Carinthia, have once again proven to be excellent hosts!
