The Pohorje Regional Park was established

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the opening ceremony for the establishment of the Pohorje Regional Park was held at the Three Kings above Slovenska Bistrica . The founders of the Pohorje Regional Park are the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the municipalities of Zreče, Vitanje, Mislinja, Lovrenc na Pohorju, Ruše and Slovenska Bistrica. The protection area represents the upper part of Pohorje, covering an area of 52 square kilometers. The first efforts to protect areas on Pohorje date back more than 100 years.

In recent years, the RRA Koroška has also been involved in these efforts in various ways. Among other things, it has provided a comprehensive graphic image of the regional park in the Pohorka cohesion project, which it coordinated. In his opening remarks at the Three Kings, Peter Zajc from the RRA Koroška highlighted, among other things, that motorized vehicle rides in the natural environment represent one of the most difficult problems for the future management of the regional park. He called on state representatives to take a more serious approach to implementing the concrete proposals that local and regional initiators have been addressing to the state for almost a decade.
